Casion Royale

So the new Bond film did not disappoint.  However, I do see how “hard-core” Bond fans would not like the film arguing that it isn’t like other Bond movies or doesn’t “feel” like a Bond movie.   Because its not.   I think thats what makes it great.  It breaks the mold, which in all honesty, is the downfall of most Bond films.  You go see it expecting to see a “Bond Film”.

In this one you get a much different Bond.  One who is fairly inexperienced as a double-O and has not yet become the Bond of the earlier films.  However, it is clear at the end of the movie that this Bond was drastically changed and shaped by the events of the film and that he is well on the path to becoming the Bond that we know and love in the earlier movies.

If they do it right, for the next two films that Daniel Craig is signed up for, I think it will be interesting to see Bond’s struggle with becoming the Bond that we are all familliar with vs. the Bond that is presented in Casino Royale.  I for one think that this is the best written Bond to date.  Through the writing and Craig’s performance there is an immense amount of character development of Bond.  He isn’t (until the end) a two-dimensional gigolo spy with one liners and a slew of gadgets.  He is a complicated man with feelings and emotions that have to be repressed.  In a sense he is a man grappling with being a man.  He is very sure of himself, arrogant even, he feels and falls in love like any normal human yet he is constantly reminded to put his feelings/emotions aside and do his job.

By far my favorite Bond yet.
